Private Label vs White Label Coffee

If you are thinking about launching your own coffee brand, one of the first things you will come across is the difference between private label and white label coffee. The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same.
White label coffee is the simplest starting point. The roaster already has finished coffees ready to go. These might be house blends or popular single origins that are already being roasted and packaged. Your brand name and logo are then added to the packaging, usually with a sticker or simple label. The coffee itself stays the same.
This approach is fast and requires very little upfront investment. It is ideal for cafés, online retailers or startups that want to launch a coffee brand quickly without needing to develop a custom product.
Private label coffee goes a step further. Instead of using an existing coffee, you create something that is unique to your brand. This could be a custom blend, a specific origin, or a particular roast profile designed for your customers. You can also customise the packaging with fully printed bags, custom colours, and branded cartons.
Because the coffee and packaging are tailored specifically for your brand, private label usually involves higher minimum order quantities and some upfront costs for design and packaging production. However, it gives you much greater control over how your brand looks and tastes in the market.
Many coffee brands actually start with a white label approach. They test the market, build some sales, and keep the initial investment low. Once the brand begins to grow, they often move to private label with fully branded packaging and their own unique blends.
At Ublend, both options are available. Some customers simply add their logo to our existing bags, while others develop a completely customised coffee range with their own blends and packaging. The right approach really depends on how quickly you want to launch and how much you want to invest in your brand from the start.
